After 10 years of working for a leading mobile phone company during its formative years and attaining the highest ITIL qualifications,  our founder Mark Slater decided to take his experience and focus solely on delivering quality Service Management to major organisations.  This also included joining the examination board (the ISEB) as an examiner to enhance his strong operational knowledge of ITIL with  evolving best-practice theory and built good relationships with leading lights in the world of Service Management.  He was one of the first in the UK to achieve the ITIL v3 Expert qualification.

In 2006 he formed Cobitil Ltd., which was a play on words with ITIL, the best practice approach for Service Management and Cobit which is a complementary governance framework.  In 2011 the company was re-branded as Red Badge Solutions, based on a ‘red badge’ being awarded to those who had passed the Manager’s Certificate in Service Management.  The newer ITIL v3 expert qualification is known as a ‘lilac badge’ but is a term lesser known in the marketplace so we did not consider another re-branding.

Since then Mark has delivered his Service Management expertise to an impressive array of blue-chip clients and public sector organisations.  This has focused on ITIL introduction and improvement assignments and fulfilling Service Designer roles for major programmes of work across a variety of industries.  We have also acted as a re-seller of Prince2 and ITIL training courses for companies, obtaining them significant discounts over published prices and worked in collaboration with providers to deliver courses on-site where further cost savings can often be demonstrated.

After developing the Red Badge Solutions company web site and another for a counselling friend he was approached to create a site for an organisation in a local village.  It soon became apparent that the offerings for small businesses from existing web design companies for the simplest of websites was inordinately expensive and costs were often hidden by saying the costs are “from £xxx”.  What should be standard offerings such as daily backups and providing a staging area to safely make changes were either additional cost items, or not available at all.  Mark decided that this was an area where his expertise could be channelled, by using his Service Management background to provide a better customer experience.  The transparent web design and hosting packages on offer are aimed to be both affordable and service orientated, ensuring that the needs of each customer is the focal point.
